CHUFC Women’s Football
In 2013 a couple of ladies had the great idea to reform a women’s team at Cooks Hill. Since then, we’ve gone from one bare-bones team to three – we’ve made the A-Grade grand final 2 years in a row and won one, introduced our first ever Zone Squad in 2018 with both teams making the finals, and participated in NNSWF Women’s State Cup, taking on a few WPL squads while we were at it – we’re happy to say we’re now firmly a part of the Cookers culture.
Whether you’re a newbie, seasoned veteran, in your football prime, a mum, a uni student, an international adventurer, new to Newy, or just bored and looking for something to do, we’ve probably got a spot for you*. We’re a bunch of friendly, social and easy-going women who support each other in football and in life – we’re a community, and if football is (or you think it is) your thing, we’d love for you to be a part of it.
*Spots are limited though, so you do need to get in quick.
Teams
Cooks Hill Women’s Football is currently made up of three teams.
All Age A
All Age A is for players who usually have a number of years’ experience. The A Grade competition is relatively competitive being the next highest grade in the Newcastle region below the Women’s Premier League (WPL). This team requires a commitment to training 1-2 nights a week as well as games on Sunday.
Zone Community League (first and reserves)
The zone squad is for players looking for something a little more social, but still want a good level of competition. The squad is made up of a reserve team and a first-grade team.
Your level of skill will help determine which grade is primarily the best fit for you for the season. Reserve grade is a good place to start for those who have minimal playing experience, with first grade offering a slightly more competitive kick-around for players with a bit more experience.
The zone squad allows flexibility for players to move between grades depending on their progress and availability throughout the season.
Zone requires a commitment to training 1 night a week and games on Sunday. Both Zone teams play at the same location every week with the Reserve game followed immediately by the First-Grade game.
Costs and Registration
Registration costs for the 2019 season are yet to be advised. The cost for the 2018 season was $435 – view the 2018 fee breakdown.
Players wanting to register for Zone Community League or All Age must first ensure there is a position available. Please contact the Women’s Coordinator at cookshillfc.womens@gmail.com.
Social stuff
AT CHUFC, it’s not always about the football. We love hanging out at all-club events and host a bunch of our own as well.
After training and games, we usually follow-up all the running around with a cold drink and a feed at the Commonwealth Hotel.
We encourage as much pre-season team bonding as possible – at the pub, laser tag, dinners, the pub etc.
Season launch generally happens sometime in April before the season kicks off and entails some team song singing and a lot of food and drink.
And then there is the annual pub-crawl. From black and white to World Cup theme – fancy dress skills will be required.
Our season normally wraps-up with an end of season trip up the coast for sunshine, beers, and the beach. Doesn’t get much better, really.
