Cooks Hill United are proud to officially announce the appointment of Doug West as Technical Director and Head Coach of the club.
Doug comes to Cooks Hill as a former player, having been part of the rise of the club at pivotal moments in its relatively short history. Doug was part of the 1st grade core group that under Mark Trenter went on to make 5 straight grand finals in ID1’s (2010) and Zone Premier League (2011-14), winning all but the 2013 affair.
Doug boasts a rich playing history, where, from 15yo he played over 200 NPL games having won grand finals with Charlestown, Hamilton and Broadmeadow Magic. He is fondly remembered by the founding members of Cooks Hill United as a player with the Breakers Youth and Senior squads from the NSL. Doug comes into the NewFM competition in 2020 having won 2 grand finals at that level playing for Lambton Jaffas.
Doug also brings very creditable coaching skills to the club. 12 years of experience across various senior, youth and junior programs also include 4 years of SAP/NET experience with Newcastle Football and Hamilton Olympic. He has coached Hamilton Olympic to multiple titles with their U14s & U15s NPL teams. He played the player coach role for CHUFC and successfully navigated modest ZPL grades to Minor & Major titles.
Doug is currently C licenced and has applied for his B licence.
The club is bringing Doug in to help manifest an ethos that has developed surrounding our junior and youth players and a desire to maintain them. The club also wishes to remain competitive in the NewFM competition across its grades. Doug has surmised the current desires of the club in 3 simple statements:
‘Our intention is to create competitive pathways for Cooks Hill ‘for life’ players from the junior stages’
‘Continue the on field success where Graham Law positioned the club, whilst implementing the competitive development framework for the Cooks Hill Juniors’
‘Create a quality, sustainable coaching environment that is in line with the club’s long term goal’
We look forward to working with and supporting Doug in helping the club achieve these goals.
